Detroit district courts have pre-set, standard bond for certain offenses, especially misdemeanors. However, there is no standard bond formula in Michigan that a magistrate must use. This means that the matter of bond is an individual decision by a magistrate or judge. Many Detroit area bondmen require a Michigan drivers license to obtain bail either for yourself or for someone else. If you do not have a local drivers license, you may be able to use an out of state bondsman. They will typically work with a local agent to free the defendant and will usually state that on their websites. All the contracts can be taken care of by email or fax.
TIP: We have heard several stories about certain bail agents in Detroit being particularly considerate and helpful to those in need. Some will help finance the cost and we have even heard that a couple may not even require collateral. So we suggest that you explain your limited financial situation in your email correspondence with bail agents and ask them what options they may have for you to get affordable bail bonds.
When contacting a Detroit area bondsman to arrange bail, put as much information into your email as possible. The more information you have about the defendant the faster your bondsman can help. However, if you don’t have much information, don’t worry, the bondsman can look up the Wayne County and other areas court records and get it that way as well. It may take a little more time that way, so just give them what you have – some of the information that will help are things like the defendant’s name, address, birthdate, the charges, and what detention facility they are in. Almost all Detroit area bail agents read and respond to email 24 hours a day. Also, all Detroit area courts as of this writing will allow you to post bail 24 hours a day as well. Bonds can be posted at certain District Courts, 3rd Circuit Court, and Friend of the Court when courts are open.
Important Contact Information For Bail Bonds Detroit Area
If arrested in Wayne County the defendant will almost certainly be held at one of the three division detention centers. This is the largest jail system in the State of Michigan and houses pretrial felons, as well as sentenced felons and misdemeanants. When being released after bail has been posted, the Wayne County jailer may require someone who can identify the defendant to be there. They will also first check police records, court records, and warrant information before the release. If not already paid, they will also require a $10 bond charge, and a $12 booking fee at the release time.
