In Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, arrestees are first taken to the Sheriff’s Office Arrest Processing Center where they are fingerprinted, mugshot taken and verified through the State Bureau of Investigation, SBI, by certified Deputy Sheriffs. If they are expected to post bail quickly they will usually be allowed to keep their own clothes. Otherwise, they will have to change into a jail jumpsuit or scrubs. Typically it takes 1-2 hours for bail to be set after this booking process at the Mecklenburg County Jail Central. After bail is posted, it usually takes 2-4 hours to be released at this facility.
TIP: Unlike many other parts of the the country, collateral is not always required by Charlotte bail bondsmen. We recommend that you email more than one bondsman and ask what their collateral requirements are and what workarounds they have to avoid it. Then pick the one who responds in an email (in writing) that will give you the best break.
